Alumni

Where are you NOW???

Dear Alumni Softball Players & Coaches,

The Knights Softball Program is attempting to start a North County/Andover/Brooklyn Park Softball Alumni.  We think it would be a great opportunity for former Softball players & Coaches to stay in touch with old friends and even make new friends with the common ties to North County/Andover/Brooklyn Park Softball.

Girls fastpitch softball has touched many young women's lives in a very positive way revealing and strengthening quality character traits and leadership skills that will carry with them through life.  It is our goal to have former Alumni who still live in the area, to come out and cheer us on and even speak to our current players and share your experiences both as a former High School Student-Athlete and your life experiences i.e. college, work and family.

                                                            Sincerely,

                                                    Knights Coaching Staff

The Coaches want to hear how you have been and your story since graduating from NCHS. We would like to use it 1) to inspire our younger athletes 2) show them what they can do with their lives and 3) post your success story on our NCHS Softball website.

Please take the time to write MAZE back with a memo ALL ABOUT YOU. Where are you now? How has your life changed since NCHS? WHat are you doing with yourself? What would you change? What would have done differently since HS? Please also let us know if you would be interested in an alumni versus current players game:) Don't forget to mention specifics we need to know like...college major, branch of armed services, college attending, current occupation, etc.

Let US know! We look forward to your input to help improve our program! We miss you and hope all is well!

Sincerely,
NCHS Softball

I'm wrapping up my 3rd year at The University of Tampa. I'm a Sociology Major with a concentration in Applied Sociology and a minor in Government and World Affairs. I'm a member of the Sociological Honors Fraternity, sociology club, and on the Dean's Student Advisory Board Committee. I've played a variety of intramural sports ranging from volleyball, softball, and soccer. I've worked the past three years for my school's intramural sports as a ref. The money isn't great but I get paid to watch sports and hang with similar sport-oriented people. Also, I'm an E.L.I.T.E. mentor for the incoming Freshmen.

School gets tougher every year but I love where I'm at and have made great friends. I feel that the activities I was involved with in high school helped prepare me for college. Sports specifically instilled dedication, time management, and interpersonal skills. If I could change anything post high school, I wish I would have kept up my physical activity level. Freshman year, It was easy to slack off without the commitment of a 2.5 hour daily practice. However, trying to get back in shape was certainly a wake up call. I definitely miss playing competitive sports and the structure of being apart of a team. However, I don't think that I would have been able to keep up with the demands of school along with playing college ball.

If I could give advice to the girls on the team now, I would say take every available opportunity given to you. Go places that are out of your comfort zone and join as many clubs as you can. Four years really soars by and college is all about learning and experiencing new things. Make as many friends as possible and have fun. It's all about the balance between fun and school. Don't slack academically but don't sacrifice a life for a 4.0 GPA.

Heck yea I would love to play an alumni game!

Hope this helps and I'm really touched that you guys still remember us.

Meg

Currently I am a second year student at Stevenson University. My major is Business Communications. I am a commuter, it's about a 30 minute drive. I write for the school paper called The Villager. College was tough the first year, but I've gotten use to it. It showed me I could accomplish anything if I put the time in and work hard. All I do now is study, but I do have time for a life. I still work at the Law Office of John E. Lindner part-time to earn some gas money. I didn't try out for the softball team even though Coach Tommy tried so hard to get me to play for college. I just wanted to focus on my studies. I do miss playing softball and being apart of a team a lot. I haven't picked up a ball in about a year. I would have changed one thing: I wish I would have tried out to play for my school team. If any of the girls want to learn more about Stevenson University let me know! I would be up for an alumni vs. current players game I just might be a little rusty lol. I would love to catch up with everyone too.

Thanks for thinking about me,
Dani

I am a junior soon to be SENIOR in college! I go to UMBC and am currently a double major in psychology and sociology with a concentration in developmental psychology. I commute, only about a 15 minute drive, and have an apartment in Linthicum with friends. UMBC has a softball team but since I struggled my first year of college, I was too worried to try out... I really wanted to focus on my schoolwork. I miss softball so much though, I wish I could find time to do both! I participate in the German Club at UMBC as well. I also work almost full time as a Guest Service Agent at a hotel by the airport.

I'm totally game for an alumni vs. current team! ... I may need to start searching for my glove though :D
Miss you & Hope all is well with you too! Let me know if you need anymore info!

I would definitely be interested in a alumni versus current players game lol. Let's go!

Where are you now?: I'm an senior at University of Maryland participating in a Joint BA/Masters Program with the School of Public Policy. I'm still living in the area, but currently on campus at College Park. I'm also working for Delegate Beidle from District 32 at the House of Delegates in Annapolis as a Legislative Aid. I'll be graduating next fall, hopefully continue my Masters program for another year then apply to Law School.

How has your life changed since NCHS?: I don't play softball anymore unfortunately, but I did play on a Recreational Team at Maryland and still go to the batting cages from time to time. Mostly my life is school and work, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I feel much more productive, like I know where my skills will be used in the future.

What would I change?: I would have lived on campus freshman year, I think I really missed out on an important part of college by waiting to move onto campus. I highly encourage anyone to live on campus your freshman year of college.

I can't really think of anything else lol. Hope to see you guys again soon, miss you too! How's the team looking this year?

Khai Blandon

so i'm about to finish up my sophomore year at temple university. i'm a speech therapy major and a minor in psychology. i'm not involved in any activities but i do play intramural softball in the spring (not to mention the team i play for is the BEST) lol i do work at temples bookstore which is great because i get a discount on my textbooks which are very expensive.

like megan said school does get harder, but i'm managing to get through it. i'm getting deeper into my major and its too late for me to change it. speech therapy is a lot of work and i will have to get my masters to be able to become a speech therapist. because school is so expensive, i haven't decided if i'm going to go straight to grad school or work to save some money and pay off loans.

if i could change something i would definitely be more involved in the different clubs at school; you can meet so many people by getting involved. my freshman year i did do a lot of partying, luckily my schedule wasn't too demanding, but this year i'm super busy. i will have to take summer courses to graduate on time.

some advice for the girls: get involved- you will make plenty of friends that you may grow to love; don't be afraid to try new things because you'll never know if it can turn out to be something you love; take advantage of any extra time you have to complete your school work because it does being to pile up; most importantly just have fun because like high school college does go by fast.

yes for an alumni game!

hope to see you soon maze!- khai

Hey Maze!!! Well right now I am wrapping up college at Anne Arundel I will be graduating in May with an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement. I have completed and passed all of the test for Baltimore County police department; I am going to be a police officer. After graduating the academy I am going to attend University of Baltimore to continue my education for a B.A. Degree, to meet the qualifications for the United States Secret Service Special Agent position. If I could go back I would have taken the chance I had to go away to college at Frostburg and kept up with my school athletics.
The college environment is very diverse yet fun. As a student the classes and homework will take up most of your time. College will fly by and be over before you know it so enjoy the experience. My advice to students is to work hard to achieve the goals you want in life, don’t give up. Also, do not give up your social life, but do not take college lightly do all the work. Keep all of your options open and take every opportunity that comes your way if it’s something you truly want.

Haven’t played in awhile but sure I’m down for a game

hiiii :) i miss you guysss :(

right now im going to school to become a hairstylist, i absolutely love it & i am three months away from graduating. im super busy going to school 40 tiring hours of the week & also having a job but anything is possible :) soo i try to make the best out of it. i miss softball more than anything, especially with you guys as my coaches. it was my outlet & kept me disciplined. i thought about the military for a while (marines) which i am still attempting to do once i get out of school. right now i am really just taking the time to focus on me & my future because at the end of the day thats all that matters.

for the girls - i remember a quote from high school that went something like " thirty years from now it wont matter what shoes you wore, how your hair looked, or what jeans you bought, what will matter is what you learned and how you used it" well, it didnt take me thirty years to realize that. ive only been out of school for 9 months and everything has already changed sooo much. like khai said highschool really does go by sooo fast soo make the best of it while your there & try your hardest because that is the foundation for the rest of your life.

& although im a little rusty, yes for the alumni game ! just let me know when and where :)

cant wait to see you guys - alyssa

Alyssa Vance

hey mazeee :) well you know i'm still at north county but i've been doing well. i'm still on that honor roll and some how managed principal's last marking period. last spring i was inducted into the national honor society. i'm still playing soccer, but decided to swim after 11 years of basketball. hopefully i'll play intramural ball next year though. and of course lacrosse, but i still do miss softball at times! i help coach a group of 12 and 13 year old girls for basketball. that has helped me develop more responsibility and made me realize younger
kids do look up to you. next year i hope to go to towson, salisbury, or some where close for early education teaching. my advice to the girls would be to never give up on your goals and never say you can't do something. also, to always stay involved. playing sports and being in clubs has made things very busy, but it has helped me to keep up with my grades and to stay focused. it is also a great way to meet new people.

i haven't played softball in forever, but sure!

tell coach al hi and hope to see you in D hall soon! :)

Theresa Papsan

omg!!! i would love to play havent played in a year i miss it so much...

im currently working full time at Cosmo Prof in Laurel, its a beauty supply. i went to CCBC Catonsville after HS and played fall ball for them, started working out for spring than i found out i was expecting a child. i took myself out of school so i could work and support my little baby girl, who i love so much.

i wouldnt change anything because i love where im at now in life working full time and have a family but i do wish i could play softball again. My coach from college offered me to come back next year or the year after and would help me in anyway for me to come back. when i played i started most of the games and played short stop for them as well.

let me know about the alumni game =]

  Jessica Collison

hey maze!!! well it's been 2 years since i've graduated and i cannot begin to explain how much i miss high school. I go to anne arundel community college and my major is dental hygiene. If there's one thing i would go back and change it would be that i went away to college and kept playing softball. now that im getting older its much harder to find the time to play and its so depressing lol. I do have a job, the same job i had while in high school actually. I haven't played ball since high school so i try going to the gym to keep up my physical activity but it's just not the same. I miss all the girls and the coaches so much, NCHS softball definitely helped shape me into the person I am today and the 3yrs i played, were the best years of high school!

If i could give the girls any advice it would be to get involved in as many things as you can without it affecting your grades. But as Megan said don't sacrifice a life for a 4.0 GPA. High school really does fly by and if you don't take advantage of every opportunity you get, you'll regret it forever. I know i hated running extra laps after games (even when we won, khai knows what im talking about lol) but i would give anything to go back and relive it all.

and although i probably suck major butt since i haven't played softball since high school im so down for an alumni game! just let me know

and i miss you and coach alan so much!!! im definitely coming up to watch a game or two this year for sure!

Hailie Hopla

I miss you, coach Al and the girls so much!! I hope all is well = ]

I'm attending Anne Arundel Community college. I plan to transfer to UMBC. I want to major in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. I made the Dean's List at AACC this past semester. I'm giving 99.9% of my time to school because it is so important. College is different and a challenge, but it will be well worth it in the end. This spring I will be playing softball on a co-ed team. I’m really looking forward to it! I currently work at the SPCA. When I have a break from school I spend time with animals. I love my job its very rewarding!

The first thing I tell everyone when they ask me what I miss most about high school is playing sports. I have learned so much and I am very thankful. My four years of high school flew by. You never know how much you miss something until its gone, I now know the true meaning of this statement. Playing sports has given me so many happy memories. NCHS sports have made a big impact on my life. I met so many wonderful people and made tons of friends. My best advice is take advantage while your young and enjoy every minute! Work hard and never settle for anything less then what you want.

I would love to play an alumni game!
Good luck to all the girls! I will come visit and watch your games. I’m looking forward to it. LETS GO KNIGHTS!!!!

Hailie

Lisa Papsan

I would love to play in the alumni game!!

I'm currently working full time at an environment consulting firm, and have been for about 2 years. I went to AACC for about 2 years and decided I wanted to work full time instead. I'm in the process of getting back into school to get my AA in general studies. Working full time and going to school is alot of work, but it's totally worth it in the end :)

I wouldn't say my life changed too much since high school, other than not playing sports and now working full time. The only thing I would have done differently was not give up sports. I really wouldnt change anything right now, because I love where my life is taking me, I'm in the process of looking/buying a house and furthering my career.

It was good hearing from you! Take Care!!
